Mackinnon is an attorney with a background in international environmental law and policy. He is the founder and editor of Biomass Intel, an online magazine providing integrative law, policy, news, and resource intelligence for the global renewable energy industry. His articles have appeared in CleanTechies and Biofuels Digest.
Mackinnon has advised renewable energy companies about law and policy issues, helping them navigate regulatory and legislative developments. As a grant writer, he develops strategies to access Stimulus funding and other governmental incentive programs. He began his career working on sustainability and natural resource issues in South Africa as a Fellow with LEAD International analyzing the intersection of population growth, environmental degradation, and development.
Mackinnon holds a JD from American University’s Washington College of Law with an emphasis on international environment law, an MA in Global Environmental Policy from American University’s School of International Service, and a BA in History from Amherst College. He is a member of the California Bar.
